Egyptian Researcher shares insights on Sustainable Agriculture at Wageningen University

On 31st of August, Young Egyptian scientist Ali El Hakeem, presented at the opening of the academic year at Wageningen University in the Netherlands. This was a prestigious opportunity for this young scientist and a great example of Dutch & Egyptian knowledge exchange.

Ali El Hakeem

The theme of the ceremony was: ‘Nature and agriculture: a continuous balancing act’.  El Hakeem talked about the importance of crop diversity in sustainable agriculture.  He discussed the opportunities of cover crops, intercropping,  and crop rotation in mechanized production systems. He even drew on his Egyptian heritage to make this point.

The theme of the opening day and El-Hakeem’s presentation have a strong connection with the Dutch government’s vision on Circular Agriculture. The vision entails a paradigm shift from growth in production volumes and cost price reduction towards optimisation of resource use and food production in harmony with nature.

Ambition

As an agricultural team, we support knowledge exchange in the area of agri-food innovation and circular agriculture.  We believe that by connecting Dutch & Egyptian scientists and agribusiness professionals, we can contribute to co-creating local solutions to global problems and to long-standing relations between Egypt and the Netherlands.
