Overview of Dutch agricultural export to Taiwan in 2019

Dutch agricultural exports to Taiwan declined slightly in 2019, with a total export value of EUR 219 million. The decline was 4.8% compared to the previous year. Flower and seedling (lily bulbs) in the past years always take 90% of the market of Taiwan, but due to several PLAMV virus infection in the field and Taiwanese government fumigate the bulbs for mite reasons, impact the harvest and quality of the flowers, caused the reduced order of bulb from NL. Export of cereal and cookies products increased in recent years as some new items were introduced to the Taiwanese market. The largest export commodity in 2019 was alcohol drinks (beer) followed by pork, cookies and potato products.

Alcohol drinks

Dutch beer is the most important agricultural product export to Taiwan. Total import of beer stood at almost EUR 77 million in 2019. Due to the very good visibility and marketing strategy, Dutch beer is always the first choice at restaurant. But recent year more foreign beer options are available in Taiwan leading to a slight drop in exports.  
 

Livestock products - Pork

Pork exports in 2019 were valued at EUR 24 million, an increase of 1.9% from a year earlier. The Netherlands was the 5th largest exporter of pork after Canada, Spain, USA and Denmark. Around 61% of pork exported from the Netherlands into Taiwan was mainly pork belly, hind feet and offal.

Dairy products

The Netherlands was the 8th largest exporter of dairy products in 2019, the biggest exporter being New Zealand (mostly milk powder).
