Myanmar National Aquaculture Development Plan for 2019-2023
To develop a strong fishery sector for Myanmar, Department of Fisheries recently launches a national policy framework for sustainable development of Myanmar’s aquaculture sector (March, 2020).
Myanmar National Aquaculture Development Plan 2019-2023 (see PDF file link , Myanmar and English versions) outlines the current state of aquaculture, policy framework related to aquaculture, plans of action for sustainability, budget management and implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
It is reported that the new policy aligns with the Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan MSDP and Agriculture Development Strategy ADS (2018). According to ADS, agriculture sector in Myanmar is estimated to contribute to 29% of GDP of the country whereas the fishery sub-sector accounts for 30% of the agriculture GDP.
