Bulgaria, Romania and Moldova Implement Joint Winemaking Project

Winemakers and producers from Bulgaria, Moldova and Romania are implementing the joint cross-border project WINET - Trade and Innovation in Wine Industry, Moldova's MOLDPRES news agency reported.

The top ten wineries in Moldova signed collaboration agreements within the project at the end of last week. A communication platform was launched as part of the project, which the head of Moldova's Investment Agency, Rodica Verbeniuc, described as a digital, direct, effective and fast communication tool for winemakers to promote their products for free, while increasing their visibility on the external market. "We are confident that WINET will change the way of cooperation and optimize communication with potential consumers and distribution networks in the three partner countries, boosting the growth of cross-border trade", Verbeniuc is quoted by MOLDPRES as saying.

For his part, Bulgaria's Ambassador to Moldova Evgueni Stoytchev said that the project is important for increasing capacity and professionalism in the wine sector, stressing the need for representatives of the sector from the three countries to interact in order to increase their level of qualification and competence in the wine industry.

"It is a beautiful initiative, meant to unite Romania, Bulgaria and the Republic of Moldova in a joint effort to promote an element of national heritage," said Romanian Ambassador to Chisinau Daniel Ionita.

The WINET project also includes a thorough research of the three participating countries' wine market. It is funded by the EU and has a budget of some 700,000 euro. The project is implemented by the Investment Agency of Moldova in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Stara Zagora (Bulgaria) and the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture - Tulcea (Romania). The period of its development and implementation is April 2019 - April 2021
