Nuffic mission to Myanmar
NUFFIC is the Dutch organization for internationalization of education. Country Managers for Myanmar, Mr. Matthijs Landsmeer (incoming) and Mr. Tjay-Koen Yap (outgoing) were in Myanmar from 6-12 July, 2019. Key objectives of their mission were to have an exchange of information and gain more insights in the ongoing NICHE and new OKP projects in Agriculture and Water.
The mission also aimed to gain insights into relevant focus areas in Myanmar in order to prepare better for future calls on institutional collaboration and so-called Tailor-made Training (Plus), to be published in Q4 2019.
During their visit, they had meetings in Yangon with the Chairman of the Myanmar National Education Policy Commission, Myanmar Maritime University, River and Coastal Engineering Department. In the capital Nay Pyi Taw, the mission visited a State Agriculture Institute, the Agricultural University Yezin , Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department (Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation) and Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems (Ministry of Transport and Communications). The mission also visited the Irrigation Technology Centre in Bago Region which is a training centre in the field of Irrigation Management.
The discussions covered a wide range of topics particularly on the bilateral partnership concerning the two priority themes, the importance of accreditation, upgrading the training institutions and curriculum, scholarship, group training opportunities and application procedures in accordance with the Country Plan of Implementation for Myanmar.
The new OKP project on Agriculture aims at: Strengthening Education and Research by realizing Agricultural College level (adding year 4 and 5 to the current SAI-levels and an Agricultural Teacher Training Unit as part of Yezin Agricultural University (1 July 2019 – 31 December 2021)
