Turkish Group Invests EUR40M in Starch Plant in Romania

Turkey’s Tosmur Group is investing EUR40 million in the construction of a starch plant in Medgidia, which will take up ten hectares and employ 200 people.

“The zoning plan has been approved and we are waiting for the construction permit to be issued,” Arslan Ozgun, the manager of the Omnia Europe company, based in Bucharest and held by Tosmur Group of Turkish businessman Fatih Tosmur, told ZF.

The company officials hope to have construction finalized in a year and a half and be able to start construction work in August. The initial investment will amount to EUR40 million, with further development to come over time, Arslan Ozgun added.

The group has starch production operations, with two starch plants in Adana, Turkey, and other agricultural businesses (orchards, farms).

The plant that will take up ten hectares is close to the Danube-Black Sea Canal and will make starch, fructose, glucose and maltodextrin among others.

At the end of last year, Omnia Europe got the green light for an 80 million lei (EUR17 million) state aid. (EUR1=RON4.7607)
