Hutsul sheep milk Brynza will be first Ukrainian product with geographical indication of origin

The first Ukrainian product with a geographical indication of origin will be the Hutsul brynza (brinsen cheese) made of sheep milk, the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food has reported.

According to the report, the application for registration of the geographical indication "Hutsul Sheep Milk Brynza" was submitted to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade on December 19. In future, the registration of this product will be the basis for its protection in Ukraine and other countries, in particular, in the EU.

"Products with geographical marking have unique features related to their origin from a certain region, reflect unique traditions, the cultural heritage and history of Ukraine. Such products will provide prospects not only for the development of local production but also for effective work in foreign markets, increase the export potential and recognition of Ukraine as a world-class food producer," Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Olena Kovaliova said.

She added that the introduction of a geographical indications system will make it possible to ensure product quality and safety, help avoid fraud and fakes, improve the organization of the production process, develop cooperation, create new jobs, and promote "green" tourism.
