Today the area of degraded soils in the territory of Ukraine is about 15 million hectares.

Earlier this spring, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Ostap Semerak, said that Ukraine is suffering from environmental degradation of the soils as well as economic losses, noting that "depending on the degree of degradation processes, losses only from underproduction of agricultural products amount to over UAH 20 billion per year ". However, there is no comprehensive state policy on this issue yet.

Seminar "Saline Agriculture: practical solution for global problems"

In July 2018 the Seminar "Saline Agriculture: practical solution for global problems" took place  in the framework of Agroport South in Kherson, Ukraine. We discussed the soil degradation and salinity and also how to run agro production on these soils.
The event was organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine in cooperation with FAO, Salt Farm Foundation and Koppert Biological Systems, with participation of the Institute of Water Problems and Soil Reclamation of the NAAS.

In October 2018 the Round Table "Degradation of Soils and Ways of Their Purification", which was held at AgroGeneration with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and companies "UkrAgroCentre", Syngenta and UKRAVIT.
