RO vet authority notifies EC, OIE about African Swine Fever in peasant households

"The Center for Disease Control Tulcea is to gather on June 11 2018, to adopt a plan of measures concerning the control, combating and eradicating ASF, as well as adopting restriction zones. These outbreaks will be notified to the European Commission, OIE, as well as Ukraine and Moldova," ANSVSA says in a press release sent to AGERPRES.

The institution will inform the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed (SCoPAFF), due June 13 and June 14 2018, about the evolution of the outbreak and preliminary conclusions of the epidemic investigation.

The villages where these outbreaks occurred are located 500 meters away from the Ukrainian border, the Danube being the geographical barrier. In the month of June 2018, Ukraine notified three outbreaks of ASF in domestic pigs, in towns near the Romanian border.

ASF was confirmed last year in Romania for the first time in a peasant household, on the outskirts of northwestern Satu-Mare municipality.

The outbreak that was seen in the last few days from Ceatalchioi village is the first of its type in Tulcea county.
