Indonesia : Circular Economy in the Food Section

On May 30, HIVOS held a “Talk and Share: Circular Economy in the Food Section” at Javara Lounge in Jakarta, featuring the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) as well as, Burgreens, among other food manufacture and service stakeholders.  The session sought to show the benefits of combining heritage and great taste experience as a model to achieving sustainable growth, which offers a credible industrialization pathway.

Hivos on Circular Economic in the Food Section

Circular Economy bottom up approach, a journey to change that requires engagement of a society as a whole.

As the world population sets to approach 10 billion by 2050, making optimum use and reuse of the already depleting earth’s resources becomes increasingly important. HIVOS introduced a piloted “New Generation of Indonesian Cooking” in Bandung and Jember to enhance efficiency and preservation of domestic food consumption. The program caters nutritious meals to informal small scale industries in low income areas in Java.

Noer Adi Wardojo who is KLHK Head of Standardization gave an overview of Circular Economy from Indonesia’s historical perspective, regulatory/policy approaches and economic development.  He said Indonesia contributed to the language of Sustainable Consumption and Production in the early 1990s and Is urging for radical transformation which requires systematic change and actions in the operation for society, business and government through standardization of public services.
