Canaries promote the passion fruit cultivation

The experiences developed up to now show that in certain locations of the islands, with the appropriate cultivation techniques, it is possible to reach relatively short production cycles and good quality crops,  practically throughout the year.

Scientists from the ICIA (Canarian Institute for Agricultural Research) are carrying out a study, financed with regional funds, aimed at promoting the cultivation of passion fruit in the archipelago.

This fruit, in spite of not being well know yet, is registering an increase in demand, both locally and for export, so that its cultivation can represent an opportunity for Canarian farmers.

The ICIA's objective is to lay the foundations to achieve a stable and good quality production throughout year, in profitable farms.
