A weekly summary of agriculture development and production in Vietnam by VietLinh online.

Livestock:

In Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province, there are now more than 150 beekeepers with about 6,000 honey bees, concentrated mainly in 2 districts of Chau Duc and Xuyen Moc.

These two districts have many advantages to develop beekeeping because they have a large forest area of melaleuca, rubber and industrial trees such as cashew, coffee, along with many kinds of fruit trees. The forest area is beneficials for bees collecting nectar and producing high-quality, beautiful-color honey.

In order for beekeeping to become a sustainable profession, the agriculture sector needs to have solutions to help beekeepers import quality, high-standard breeds, as well as build strong consumer markets and good branding for local honey products.

Plantation:

According to rubber growers in Song Hinh District, Phu Yen Province, currently is the season of rubber tapping. At the beginning of the crop, the price of latex was stable at VND11,600-12,000/kilogram of liquid latex. At this price, rubber growers make a significant profit.

At the present, Song Hinh District has about 4,000 hectares of rubber. The average yield of rubber farming in this local is about 1.8 tons/hectare; in some cases, it is nearly 3 tons/hectare.

Rubber growers earn about VND40-50 million/hectare. If this price is stable, rubber growers will have high income source compared to other crops in the present time.

Pet, Flowers and Ornamental Plants:

Sa Cat Cooperative Group for production and consumption of ornamental peach blossom trees in Hoang Dieu Ward, Thai Binh City has attracted 115 members participating. The cooperative has more than 12 hectares of peach blossom. Members with the largest number of peach trees plant from 450 to 500 roots, including ancient, wild peach blossom.

The advantage of growing peach blossom for florists is that local soil is especially suitable for this species. With good soil conditions, flower buds and peach petals grow evenly, are more beautiful and larger than peach blossom grown elsewhere. Currently, Sa Cat Cooperative has more than 38,500 ornamental peach blossom trees, 6,660 wild peach blossom trees, more than 42,500 seedlings, more than 14,700 ornamental kumquat trees along with thousands of fruit trees and shade trees.
