Vietnam and the Netherlands Developing sustainable and inclusive agricultural value chain and trade platform

On the invitation of Dutch Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality of the Netherlands H.E. Mrs. Schouten, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam H.E. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Cuong is paying a working visit to the Netherlands from 9 to 11 December 2019. The visit of Minister Cuong, accompanied by the ministerial, provincial and business delegation, aims to further develop sustainable and inclusive agriculture and mutual business opportunities under the framework of the Vietnam – the Netherlands Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security

One of the significant activities of Minister Cuong’s visit is the meeting with high level representatives from Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality of the Netherlands to exchange further information and viewpoints on policy developments and potential bilateral cooperation under SPA. Minister Cuong will have a courtesy call with Vice Prime Minister cum Minister Schouten and the two ministers are expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Development of Vietnam –Holland sustainable and inclusive agricultural trade platform. Later, Minister Cuong will have a courtesy call with Minister of Water and Infrastructure of the Netherlands H.E. Mrs. Van Niewenhuizen.

Turning threats into opportunities in Vietnamese Mekong Delta

Mekong Delta has always been significant in the cooperation agenda between the two countries. This visit is expected to create a platform for MARD and provincial leaders from Vietnam to discuss with the Dutch top sectors on where and how the Netherlands can contribute to the process of agricultural transformation in Mekong Delta to adapt to climate change and hence create opportunities.

Sharing knowledge and expertise for future

The Vietnamese delegation will visit Wageningen Research University to have more insights and information on Dutch agricultural concepts and innovations such as circular agriculture, agro business parks, post-harvest losses, Orange Knowledge Program and later visit the Food Safety Lab of Wageningen University. The delegation will also visit World Horti Center.

Opening up business opportunities

On the margin of the visit, a number of match-making activities will be organized to establish new contacts and strengthen the existing ones to facilitate the potential trade and investment cooperation between Vietnamese and Dutch businesses.
