Vietnamese Avocado

Aquaculture:

Crispy carp farming has become widespread in some Asian countries. It was introduced to Vietnam more than 10 years ago and mostly concentrated in Hai Duong Province. Crispy carp farming especially brings high economic efficiency.

Nguyen Trung Tuu in Nam Tan Commune, Nam Sach District, Hai Duong Province, has 4 aquaculture farms. Of which, one of them is specialized in fish fry, and three of them are specialized in fish cage farming in river. With a total of 100 cages, including 50 cages used for crispy carp farming. Nguyen’s facility became the largest crispy carp farming in the country with an output of 250 tons per year. He also registered the copyright of his farming to the National Office of Intellectual Property in 2014, and registered his products’ quality control to the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture Quality Management of Hai Duong Province a few years ago.

It is still common carp farming. Yet, once the fish weigh more than 1 kilogram, they will be fed with fava bean (Vicia faba) imported from Australia and India within 5 to 6 months. With this method, the fish taste will be delicious, solid, and crispy.

Processing, Import and Export:

According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), after an inspection period from May 15, 2018 to May 24, 2018, the European Commission's inspection team has recognized progress from Vietnam and will return to reevaluate its warning for the country's seafood in January 2019.

According to leaders of agriculture and rural development, to overcome the warning, Vietnam’s seafood industry still has many challenges. In particular, there are many weaknesses in the control of catching and tracing of exploited aquatic products. Fishing management also reveals many issues that need to be addressed.

Livestock:

The high-yield TC duck species experimented by the Hau Giang Province’s Agricultural Extension Center has shown positive farming results. Farmers are very delighted because of the high economic efficiency of this duck variety.

TC duck has high productivity to produce a large number of eggs with its reproductive age at 18 weeks and weight at 1.2-1.4 kilogram each. The egg yield can reach 280-285 eggs/duck/52 reproductive weeks. The amount of feed consumed is at 2kilogram/10 eggs, and its egg weight is 60-70gram/egg.

With a harvesting period of about 2 years, farmers will earn high profit with only one major investment at the beginning. In particular, TC ducks can be farmed in various ways such as farming in garden or combination models including fish - duck, fish - rice - duck, rice – duck farming.

Plantation:

Lemongrass is very suitable for soil conditions of Tan Phu Dong District, Tien Giang Province. Currently, lemongrass has been multiplied in Tan Phu Dong to more than 1,500 hectare with an output of 22,000 tons per year.

In the past, lemongrass was cultivated by small island farmers, which served as home-made meals. Recently, the price of lemongrass has increased over VND5,000/kilogram. The plant also adapted to local soil with high levels of salinity. Thus, its farming is expanded in the region. The price of lemongrass is currently at VND5,000-5,500/kilogram, which is very profitable compared to the price of VND3,000/kilogram that farmers need.

Every day, there are dozens of traders coming to Tan Phu Dong Island to buy lemongrass. Farmers growing lemongrass can earn more than VND100 million per year, an increase of nearly 10 times compared to rice farming.

Fruits:

With only 60 local avocado trees planted in pepper gardens, Ho Van Hoan's family in Dak Lao Commune, Dak Mil District, Dak Nong Province annually collected over VND300 million.

In 2010, after the construction of his pepper garden, Ho intercropped avocado trees so that they could protect his peppers from heavy wind. To ensure the trees to grow well and meet the windbreak target, he chose a local avocado variety for planting. The variety is easy to grow without much care, but is profitable with high productivity, low investment cost, and high rate of fruit bearing. The avocado fruits harvested have slim and beautiful shapes, which are preferred by the market.

Ho family's avocado can be harvested late. Although many other nearby gardeners are harvesting their fruits, Ho is waiting for more than two more months to harvest his avocado. The use of late avocado varieties to avoid main crops is a way for Ho to sell the fruits at a higher price, bringing a significant source of income for his family.

It is estimated that there are 738 dead cattle, 13,855 dead poultry, and 599.28 hectare of aquaculture ponds damaged in the region.

Pet, Flowers and Ornamental Plants:

Among different species of orchids, the mutant line is favored by many players. They especially seek to own the special white Dendrobium anosmum with five petals from Phu Tho Province.

According to some longtime players, the first white five-petal orchids in Phu Tho appeared naturally on a banyan tree at Co Tiet Commune, Tam Nong District.

In addition to its special characteristics of body and leaves, the most prominent feature of this orchid variety is its five petals. The petals create a beautiful, harmonious flower shape. In contrast to other usual purple Dendrobium anosmum, the color of this trendy five-petal orchid is white. After blooming from 3 to 5 hours, the orchid has a pleasant, attractive fragrance that attracts people around.
