Innovation Flies High in Thailand at Horti ASIA 2018
Horti ASIA 2018 or The 6th International Trade Show for Horticultural and Floricultural Production and Processing has been kicked off in Bangkok last week. The 3 days show (22nd – 24th August) expects to draw more than 10,000 professional visitors from horticulture and floriculture sector in Thailand and across Asia.
“How a tiny country The Netherlands feeds the world” , the National Geographic headlined an article published last year. And yes, we are the 2nd largest exporter of agricultural products in the world and yes we are around only 8% of the surface of Thailand. The Dutch have always realized there are limits to the amount of food that a small country like ours can produce. And we are always looking for new ways to overcome these limits, pushing back boundaries. We export tomatoes to any country in the world. But we also sell tomato seeds and greenhouses to grow them in and teach growers the techniques to use them. More than 18 Dutch companies around in Horti Asia 2018 making The Netherland the largest European delegation showing you the latest techniques and innovations. Not only to increase the production, but also taking into account sustainability." Willem Schoustra, the Dutch Agricultural Counsellor to Thailand and Vietnam said during the official opening of Horti ASIA 2018 in Bangkok.
Horti ASIA 2018 becomes one of the Regional Meeting Point for Asian horticultural industry. This year leading companies from 49 countries active in horticultural and agricultural innovation and technology are exhibiting. Supported by The Netherlands Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV), Holland Pavilion in Horti ASIA 2018 has again highlighted the Dutch horticultural technology as the global trend setter from seed, greenhouse innovation to post harvest technology.
“Horticulture Innovation for Food Security and Climate Change; experiences from The Netherlands” is the theme of Holland Seminar in Horti ASIA 2018. Four Dutch experts are invited to share their knowledge and experiences with hundred of audiences. Dr. Anne Elings from Wageningen University & Research gives the presentation on "Design and Management of Greenhouse Production System in the Tropics". Tark Bartlema from Eagle Sensing presents "Actionable Analytics for Plantation Management”. Asia especially South East Asia is set to be the international food basket, Horti ASIA 2018 is expected to help boosting the development of agriculture and horticultural technology in the Region while the Netherlands horticultural sector is ready to collaborate.
