A new variety of Canarian avocado got EU registration
The Canary Islands Institute for Agricultural Research (ICAI) has registered, in the EU Patent Office, a new avocado variety tolerant to Phytophthora cinnamomi, a fungus that causes the most important disease that affects this crop.
The variety has been called “Julián” and comes from a SS 3 avocado seed. Three more varieties with similar properties are in the process of obtaining their registration.
