Hungary: Another Avian influenza outbreak identified
Authorities confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic Avian influenza at a chicken farm in South-Central Hungary.
The National Food Chain Safety Office (NÉBIH) has identified another outbreak of highly pathogenic Avian influenza at a chicken farm in Kunszállás, Bács-Kiskun County, in South-Central Hungary.
The farm houses 121 thousand laying hens, the termination of the livestock populace has already commenced. According to the official announcement, increased livestock mortality and diminishing egg production suggested the presence of the disease, which was confirmed on January 27, when laboratory testing identified the presence of the H5N1 strain at the farm.
NÉBIH commented that the protection and observation areas around the chicken farm have been established per veterinary protocol, and reiterated the importance of poultry farms following veterinary disease protection procedures that are currently in place due to the presence of Avian influenza in Hungary.
