PRODEXPO Exhibition in Moscow - the largest food show in Russia and Eastern Europe

On 11-15 February, 2019, the 26th edition of the Prodexpo International Exhibition for Food, Beverages and Food Raw Materials took place in Moscow in Expocentre Exhibition Complex in Moscow. It is the largest food show in Russia and Eastern Europe. 

Prodexpo exhibition was organized with the support of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, several food industry associations and unions. The fair occupied all nine pavilions of Expocentre Fairgrounds and two additional temporary pavilions. This year the exhibition space exceeded 100,000 sq m.  

2,442 companies from 69 countries of Europe, Asia, North and South America, Africa and Australia demonstrated their best products. Thirty countries have national pavilions, including nine EU countries – France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Spain.

Italian Minister of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies Gian Marco Centinaio and Ambassador of Italy to the Russian Federation Pasquale Terracciano visited the Italian Pavilion at Prodexpo 2019. When talking to journalists, they highlighted the importance of Prodexpo to Italian companies. "I am positive that all 47 Italian exhibitors are happy to be here," said Pasquale Terracciano.

The number of Russian regions which want to show their products has also grown. This year there were 21 of them. In total, there were 1,722 Russian manufacturers and suppliers taking part in Prodexpo 2019.   

Twenty eight salons covered all sectors of the Russian and foreign food market. This year’s premiere is Prodexpo Organic for manufacturers and suppliers of organic food and beverages.  

The participants in Prodexpo Organic were 38 companies from Russia, Italy, Greece, Spain, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Bolivia, and Vietnam.

The Russian organic products, namely, dairy products, cheese, groceries, confectionery, drinks, and many others were showcased by the companies from Kaluga, Rostov, Tula, Tambov, Yaroslavl, and other regions. The Kuban Organic Farmers Association put on display fresh vegetables and fruit. The Salon showcase was accompanied by business networking of organic professionals that took place at the conference on Organic Products in Retail: Problems and Solutions.

According to Sergey Bednov, General Director of Expocentre, Prodexpo is not only a show of products but, first of all, business networking platform. It offers a lot of conferences, workshops, and master classes on many different topics. The traditional Purchasing Centre for Retail Chains helps manufacturers and retailers to meet face-to-face.

Development trends in the Russian food market were discussed at the panel on the Russian Food Market: Focus on Growth, International Cooperation and Export within the business program of the Prodexpo International Exhibition.

The session that opened the trade show was organised by RBC and Expocentre AO. The participants were representatives of federal and regional authorities, major agricultural companies, and leading experts of the Russian agricultural sector.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia Oksana Lut said that the Russian agricultural industry developed well, the domestic market was nearly provided with foodstuffs for most items according to the Food Security Doctrine. According to the Deputy Minister, exports grew in 2018. The quality of Russian food is highly appreciated in the world. It is in great demand and the prospects of export are great. That is why it is necessary to increase production.

Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Moscow Region Andrey Razin told about priorities for development of the agricultural sector. He emphasized that today's agricultural sector of the Moscow region is relevant not only across the region but also across the country. The exports of food of the Moscow Region companies exceed 700 million US dollars. According to the Minister, the most promising trends in the export development are extensive processing of livestock and crop products and ready-made meals.

The participants in the discussion were also First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Agriculture and Food Policy and Environmental Management Sergey Lisovsky,  Head of the Agro-Industrial Companies in Russia / CIS Practice, KPMG Ilya Strokin, Director of Representative Office Russia, METRO AG, Alexey Grigoriev, and Russian Businessman, Founder of Dovgan TM Vladimir Dovgan.
