Romania's absorption of EU Funds

The absorption of European funds: how much money has Romania actually attracted in agriculture from the European Union, from its accession until now.

Since Romania`s accession to the EU, the Ministry of Agriculture has taken over 26 billion euros in European and national funds for the Romanian agriculture, according to the Minister of Agriculture, Nechita Adrian Oros. The average annual rate of funds absorption is over 96%.

"Ever since Romania's accession to the European Union, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, through APIA [Agency for Payment and Intervention in Agriculture], has taken over 26 billion euros in European and national funds intended to support Romanian agriculture and Romanian farmers, with an average annual absorption rate of over 96 % ”, said Nechita Adrian Oros, answering a question addressed by the PMP deputy Marius Pascan.

The Minister of Agriculture added that an average of 900 thousand payment applications are submitted to APIA on an yearly basis, for an area of cca. 9.5 million hectares.

At the same time, Adrian Oros said that there are over 100 forms of financing for the Romanian farmers.

” If APIA carried out in 2007 less than 10 forms of support for the Romanian farmers, at the present moment the number of schemes and measures/sub-measures, and of the managed packages/sub-packages has increased substantially, reaching over 100", concluded the Minister of Agriculture.
