New Government, new Minister of Agriculture in Romania

In the beginning of November 2019, a new government was sworn in, after the collapse of the previous one in a non-confidence vote in Parliament. The new government is a minority government of the National Liberal Party (PNL), led by Prime Minister Ludovic Orban. It has a limited term (1 year), until the next parliament elections.

The new minister of agriculture and rural development is Adrian OROS.

Nechita-Adrian Oros was born in 1965 in the city of Gherla, Cluj county (central Romania). He graduated in 1989 from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and got a PhD in veterinary medicine in 2003. Since 2012, Oros has been the Vice-Rector of the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Cluj. From 2000 to 2001 he was director of the Veterinary Sanitary Directorate of Cluj, and in 2008-2009 - director of the Sanitary and Food Safety Directorate of Cluj.

Oros was a member of the National Peasants’ Party – PNTCD from 2003 until 2007. In 2008-2010, he was vice president of PNL Cluj, then, in 2009-2012, he was president of PNL Cluj-Napoca. He has been a MP (deputy) in Romania’s Parliament since 2012 (also vice chairman of the agri-commission in the second chamber).
