Poland a bigger partner for Germany than France and is chasing the Netherlands

Imports to Germany from Poland have grown by more than two billion euros year-on-year this year, and that's how much we're ahead of France in the ranking of largest exporters to Europe's largest economy.

In Europe, Poland is still only overtaken by the Netherlands (which is also due more to intermediation than its own exports. In the first two months of 2023, it fell by 10 percent and overtook Poland by just €1.5 billion).

In the world, only China and the US are still ahead of Poland.

Imports from Poland have recently been replacing those from China for Germany.

The largest percentage increase in imports to Germany in February, up 86 % year-on-year to €240 million, was in tobacco products, and here Poland, Europe's tobacco giant, is the likely destination.

Imports of electricity also rose by 58 percent to €915 million and electrical equipment by 27 % to €9.4 billion.
