Poland: first HPAI outbreak this season

The Chief Veterinary Officer in Poland informed on November 25, 2020 on the designation of an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in poultry based on the results of laboratory tests received on November 24, 2020.

The HPAI outbreak (subtype H5N8) was confirmed at a laying hen farm in Wrioniawy in the Wolsztyn commune, in Wielkopolska on the 24th of November 2020.

It is the 33rd HPAI outbreak in 2020 in the territory of the Republic of Poland and the first in the second half of this year. In the first half of 2020, 32 HPAI outbreaks in poultry were identified, the last of which was found on March 31, 2020. In addition, 3 HPAI outbreaks were found on December 31, 2019.

As of August 13, 2020, Poland regained the status of a country free from highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).
