Changed export requirements for horticultural produce from Kenya

There is a change in regards to market access of horticultural produce from Kenya. The European Union (EU) imposes stricter regulations for Kenyan beans, check below if this has impact on your business.

Beans 3:2

The EU imposed stricter measures on the import of Kenyan beans, which will be subject to mandatory 10% sampling checks on residue levels. Find the new regulations here. These measures are effective from the 26th May 2020. Excessive levels of pesticide residues is likely to lead to total ban. The EU, which is Kenya's main market for horticulture produce, had initially capped the sampling at 5%. The increase in the inspection sample size means that the growers are expected to bear the extra cost, therefore the produce will be marketed more expensively on the world market.
