Japan neemt deel aan Floriade Expo 2022

On 9 April, the Japanese Cabinet officially approved participation in the International horticultural exhibition Floriade Expo 2022 that will take place in Almere, the Netherlands, from 14 April to 9 October 2022. Japan, like the other participants, will exhibit its vision of a healthy green city and its culture at the exposition.

The Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries indicates that the country wants to show typical horticultural and agricultural techniques. Japanese floral splendor and culture will also be exhibited by, among other things, bringing ‘ikebana’ to Floriade. ‘Ikebana’ is the Japanese art of making flower arrangements. Japan wants to promote its flower exports and green technologies and further strengthen its ties with the Netherlands through its participation in Floriade.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries will promote its flower exports and culture, such as 'Ikebana', through indoor exhibitions while the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) plans to promote Japan's landscaping technology and culture through outdoor exhibitions.

Floriade 2022

In the run-up to the Floriade 2022, the Netherlands Embassy is promoting Dutch flower bulbs and flowers, flower design as well as greenhouse horticulture in Japan.  An example of this is the (virtual) opening of the garden of the Ambassador’s residence where a great many tulips and other spring flowers are in bloom. On 21 April, a virtual tour will be organised for interested viewers on the internet.
