Visit to East West Seed Indonesia

Agriculture Counsellor, Joost van Uum together with the Economic team of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands visited PT East West Seed Indonesia (EWINDO) on Friday, June 11th at Purwakarta, West Java. To travel from Jakarta to Purwakarta takes approximately 1.5 hours during the working hours. Once there, they are greeted at their beautiful urban farm site by Glenn Pardede, managing director. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, only a few key person from EWINDO presented. Among those present were Freddy Reynaldo (Corporate Engagement Manager), Joko Sareh (Seed Operation Deputy Director), and Ririn Amelia (HR Director).

A series of field visit have been prepared by EWINDO. They were invited to see the Research and Development  (R&D) Department, where EWINDO have laboratories for the seeds breeding and pathogen identification. This place is the most important place at EWINDO where they use advanced technology to produce a high quality vegetable seeds. After that they visited the seed production site where various seeds produced by the farmers were collected and went through a selection process. After being selected, the seeds are reprocessed to be packaged and finally marketed throughout Indonesia under the name CAP PANAH MERAH.

Glenn Pardede explained that EWINDO has been serving Indonesian farmers for more than 30 years, supported by 1,000 local employees and partnering with 17,000 farmers in East Java, West Java and Lampung. Through the digital era and to involve more young farmers, EWINDO has also created an application to help farmers get better, “user friendly” crops called SIPINDO (Indonesian Agricultural Information System). As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), EWINDO organizes a Knowledge Transfer Program to improve the living standards of farmers and the people of Eastern Indonesia. This program has helped more than 40,000 farmers.

By following health protocols, they were served lunch together which were located in the middle of their farms filled with fruits and flowers. One of the spots initiated by EWINDO is to create instagramable and gardening spots while at the same time providing education to visitors.
