Dutch Sweet Peppers entered the Chinese Market

On 22 June, the "Dutch Valley" sweet pepper launching event, organized by FVO in Shanghai was attended by Mrs. Anneke Adema, Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Shanghai, and Mr. Nick Hong, Agro-food officer of the Consulate.

Mrs. Adema gave a speech, in which she emphasized food safety and sustainability by introducing the methods used in The Netherlands to grow sweet peppers.  Mr. Matthijs Jasperse, Managing director of FVO China, and Mr. Wim Zuidgeest, Co-owner of Zuidgeest Growers BV, explained what is so unique about the Dutch sweet pepper.  Mrs. Adema, together with Matthijs Jasperse, Wim Zuidgeest and other Dutch companies, handed over the first batch of sweet peppers to representatives of Chinese retailers.

In October 2015, the DG of AQSIQ, ZHI Shuping, and the Dutch Minister of Agriculture, Sharon Dijksma, signed the Plant Sanitation Requirement Protocol of Dutch Pepper Exported to China in the witness of Chinese President XI Jinping and his Majesty King Willem-Alexander. The Netherlands became the first country in the world who obtained the permission of exporting sweet peppers to China. After signing the protocol, the assessment of trial marketing was successfully completed last year.  Until now, this long project has finally led to the delivery of the first batch of sweet peppers to Shanghai.

FVO works for the six major bell pepper exporters who are targeting the Chinese market. They all use the identical “Dutch Valley” brand when exporting to China and so we can look forward to more sweet peppers entering the Chinese market.
