De professionele dierhouderij in de Europese Unie is op weg naar een forse verlaging van het medicijngebruik. Bij de vaststelling van het protocol hiervoor speelde Nederland een belangrijke rol. Dat zegt landbouwraad Eric van der Sommen. Hij was afgelopen vijf jaar werkzaam in het landbouwteam van de Permanente Vertegenwoordiging van Nederland bij de Europese Unie (PV EU). Binnenkort neemt hij afscheid.

'Stevig onderhandeld in Brussel, maar altijd met open vizier'

De Britse regering heeft op 13 juni haar voedselstrategie voor Engeland gepubliceerd. De strategie is de langverwachte beleidsreactie van de regering op de aanbevelingen van een Independent Review van juli vorig jaar, uitgevoerd door Henry Dimbleby. Van de aanbevelingen is ongeveer de helft overgenomen in de nieuwe voedselstrategie . De meer spraakmakende aanbevelingen gericht op beïnvloeding van consumentengedrag, zoals een suiker- en zouttaksen een 30% reductie in de consumptie van vlees en zuivel, komen niet terug in de nieuwe strategie van de overheid.

Het jaar 2021 was voor de Luxemburgse landbouw opnieuw onrustig: na de pandemie volgde de Oekraïne-crisis. De Luxemburgse regering is de sector daarom tegemoet gekomen met specifieke steunmaatregelen. Aan de andere kant legt de Luxemburgse regering de agrofood-sector ook zeer ambitieuze doelstellingen op. De landbouwproductie kende in 2021 soms sterke schommelingen, terwijl bij de veestapel de stijging van het kleinvee zich ook afgelopen jaar doorzette.
