Poland: ASF outbreaks 72-74

New outbreaks of African Swine Fever (ASF) in pig herds have been confirmed in Poland, mostly in backyard farms, reaching the number of 74 outbreaks this year. The farms are located in the east of Poland, but one infection was confirmed also in the west, app. 83 km in a straight line from the German border.

The Chief Veterinary Officer informed about the designation of new outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) in pigs in the territory of the Republic of Poland. The outbreaks were confirmed in backyard farms in 3 provinces Poland: Lubelskie, Podkarpackie and Dolnoslaskie. The outbreak in Lubelskie province are located in a hazard area (blue zone, area defined in part III of the Annex to EC Decision 2014/709/EU), similarly as the outbreak in Dolnoslaskie (west of Poland). The outbreak in Podkarpackie was noted in a restricted area (red zone, area defined in part II of the Annex to EC Decision 2014/709/EU).
 

  • Outbreak  no. 72 was found on the farm where 31 pigs were kept, located in Majdan Nowy, Księżpol commune, Biłgorajski district, Lubelskie province.
  • Outbreak  no.  73 was found on the farm where 16 pigs were kept, located in Wierzchowice, Gaworzyce commune, Polkowice district, Dolnośląskie province.
  • Outbreak  no.  74 was found on the farm where 20 pigs were kept, located in Łazy, Radymno commune, Jarosław district, Podkarpackie province.

In Dolnośląskie province (in the west of Poland) it is a second outbreak in pig farm in 2020, located in the same commune as outbreak no. 5 designated on 22 June 2020. The infected farm is distanced approximately 83 km from the German border. In the region 67 ASF positive wild board were reported in 2020.
