World Seed Partnership Meeting Held in Myanmar

This week on 25th September, the agriculture department of The Netherlands was present at the World Seed Partnership Meeting in Nay Pyi Taw, jointly organized by the Department of Agricultural Research (DAR), Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Myanmar and Plant Variety Testing Department and Naktuinbouw, the Netherlands.

In addition, the representatives of the World Seed Partnership (OECD, UPOV, ISTA, ISF and WFO) highlighted the importance for farmers to get access to improved varieties ad high quality seeds. It further committed to support and provide any assistance, when and if relevant for each organization, for the development of a strong seed sector and to help Myanmar to implement the different scheme or system that will benefit the agricultural sector.

The following day, a 4th National Seed Sector Platform Meeting was held on the theme of ‘Global Standards & Commitments’, with active participation again of many international participants of the World Seed Partnership. The meeting was a joint initiative of the Department of Agriculture (DOA), Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Myanmar and the Wageningen University & Research, the Netherlands.  It was agreed to continue further the implementation of the national seed sector road map established in 2016.

Ambassador Jurgens attended the World Seed Partnership Meeting and hosted a Networking Dinner on 25th September evening for the special invitees and participant of the World Seed Partnership and National Seed Sector Platform meetings in Nay Pyi Taw.
