Kick off Nederlands - Thaise landbouw en voedsel forum 2018 op woensdag 28 maart

Although Thailand focuses on creating a more forward-thinking and modern economy, driving the Kingdom forward stills crucial and highly rely on the agricultural and agro-industry sector. Thailand remains one of the world’s most prolific agriculture producers and exporters on key commodities for instance rice, sugar, cassava, pineapple, rubber and poultry. Under the rising international competition, the productivity and efficiency are increasing their role in the value chain how to produce for More From Less. As a result, higher yields and greater efficiency are an effective means to boost output of agri & food.

Thai Department of Agriculture (DOA) in collaboration with Kasetsart University (KU) and The Netherlands Embassy in Bangkok will jointly organize “Thai – The Netherlands Agriculture & Food Forum 2018” in March 28th – 29th,  2018 at Kasetsart University, Bangkok. The 200 participants are invited from Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Universities, Business, Farmers and other relevant R&D institutes nationwide. The Director International Agrobusiness of the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, mr. Michiel van Erkel is present to deliver a supporting speech. 

“The purpose of the Netherlands – Thai Agri & Food Forum 2018 is to discover how the bilateral trade and scientific cooperation between Thailand and The Netherlands in the fields of agriculture, horticulture and agro-industry (food) can be strengthen in the fields of knowledge and technology transfer. Moreover, continued bilateral cooperation in the field of agricultural challenges related to climate change and the effects on the water situation (severe drought, floods and salination of farmland), demographics (increasing aging society in the rural area) and land use” quoted by Arie Veldhuizen, The Dutch Agricultural Counsellor (Thailand & Vietnam).

“Necessary modernizations have been omitted for a long time. Agriculture provides 50% of employment, but is responsible for only 9% of the GDP. The Thai authorities recognize these problems and have deployed a transition trajectory. With its Thailand 4.0 strategy, the Thai government aims to increase the value added of its agricultural production and to invest in knowledge and technology explicitly looks at experiences and expertise from the Netherlands. are seen as important partners in this phase. Thailand has great ambitions and is prepared to invest on Dutch know-how. There are good opportunities for business” as added by Khun Arie.
